A life less ordinary……….that‘s certainly a charge that could not be levelled at 21 year old Amelia Gabriel Sangster a.k.a Amelia Sparks, vocalist and muse to The Bullitts.
Until 10 years of age she lead a nomadic lifestyle travelling the world with her missionary parents before being left behind in a Catholic Convent School in York.
With no desire to follow the righteous path, her only solace was in the choir which she used to practise her Soprano style vocals – the effects of which can be heard in the faltering high notes which co-sign her instantly recognisable voice.
After switching the nun’s prayer sheets for the words to Prince’s “Erotic City” she decided to forgo her Hail Mary’s, bid Jesus “Bye Bye” and hitched a ride to London to follow her true path.
Amelia Sparks met Napoleon Solo while busking at Seven Dials in London’s Covent Garden. Intrigued by her rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Help Me”, Amelia was strumming a battered Guitar and singing through a megaphone simultaneously! Inspired, he immediately sat down and wrote “Meeting at Seven Dials”. Two years on she is the creative inspiration behind “The Bullitts” and the haunting vocals on “Stay Runaway”.
James Poyser completes the trio; meeting Napoleon Solo in Philly at Questlove from The Roots’ house. The two hit it off instantly and began exchanging ideas from all sides of the globe. And the rest as they say is their story…..
The Bullitts are currently in the studio working on new material for their debut album: “THEY DIE BY DAWN & Other Short Stories”
