THE LATE GREATS - ‘DESTROY MY BRAIN’ EP

Release date: 18th May 2009 (Izumi Records)

The seaside town of Eastbourne is the unlikely outpost and home to future alt-rock heroes, The Late Greats. In equal parts intelligent, intense, chaotic and fragile, the four piece have quietly bided their time over the last 12 months, writing their debut album (in between epic bouts of table tennis) thus honing the sound of The Late Greats.

Their debut album “Life Without Balloons” is a record indebted not only to the band’s love of lo-fi US indie/alt-rock (Sonic Youth, Pixies, Pavement) but also and stamped with a truly provincial delivery of british square peg bands like XTC, glittering with melodic gold.

In The Late Greats’ own words, Life Without Balloons was influenced by: “the surroundings of a seaside town, dead friends, hating the city and what it does to your girlfriend, hopeful musings about a better life with better people, and of course, love.” 8th May Bath Moles.

From the get go The Late Greats have constantly been playing live. This has seen them band play recent support to White Lies & Ladyhawke at London Calling in Amsterdam and also open for a diverse set of artists including Late of the Pier, Blood Red Shoes, Laura Marling, Jack Penate, The Wave Pictures and Slow Club, Taking in dates not just the UK but also New York’s CMJ.
